I was rooting for Lauren all the way! I think that Reid did a really good job isolating her from Ryan, only to find out that they felt the same way about each other. To the reader, Lauren looked like she was yelling at the abyss half of the book, feeling both longing and resentment towards Ryan. She assumed the worst out of him, from thinking he hooked up with people without thinking about her to even before they split – when she thought the proposition of him trying to take the dog wasn't fair. I thought that was interesting because it's like a case study of how our emotions can sway us to make self-centered judgments about other people – and it wasn't until Rachel mentioned it that Lauren felt bad about Ryan. Furthermore, I loved the build-up with the emails. I thought it was odd that they communicated this way because I don't think I know a single person who emails people casually. However, I concede that this was perhaps a very intelligent way for them to secretly keep tabs on each other and really develop the plot. I'm also a bit skeptical about the year-long break proposition, as I feel like it would drive most people apart rather than bring them together. The saying that "you don't know what you have until it's gone" is true to some extent, however, I don't understand how people can feel an immense longing for each other even when the sparks die down and they see other people. I guess since I haven't been in a relationship before I have no leg to stand on, but I think that it's a point worth bringing up. Especially since the divorce rate is so high. Nonetheless, I am really happy I picked this book up! The sneaking around, the side plot with her brother, it all blended together into one amazing cohesive story! The last part of the novel was also super romantic, and it felt so rewarding to see after reading about Lauren's struggles with trying to find herself and rekindle the relationship.
